The European Drilling Engineering Association, DEA(e), 4th Quarter 2024 Meeting, was hosted by THREE60 ENERGY, on December 5th and 6th in Oslo, Norway. This session’s theme focused on the Energy Transition and the pivotal role that oil & gas well drilling plays in supporting our low-carbon future. The event gathered energy industry experts to discuss novel technologies and regulatory changes shaping the future of energy production, particularly in the geothermal and carbon capture sectors.
Metharc presented its innovative, deep-wellbore (not reservoir) methane decarbonization process, which allows for hydrogen generation within a completion tool, together with sustainable, simultaneous downhole carbon capture CCS. This novel approach aims to reshape how (not if) natural gas and biogas resources are exploited, to reduce carbon production and harmful emissions, while maintaining energy security in a climate beneficial way through clean energy low-emission H2 production. Our goal is to eliminate the need for carbon capture downstream of the well, minimizing requirements for atmospheric CO2 capture infrastructure.

A big thanks to Dawn Dukes and Michele Turitto at OTM, and Arne Hjelle and the DEA(e) committee for extending the invitation to Metharc and the opportunity to present and add our voice to the discussion.
