Metharc's novel process enables the rapid and cost-efficient scale-up of low-carbon hydrogen production from abundant natural gas and biogas resources using a downhole tool that converts methane to clean hydrogen with simultaneous in-situ capture of carbon.
Metharc helps Natural Gas, Geothermal and Biogas companies become hydrogen and carbon capture leaders, taking advantage of existing licenses with fewer permitting barriers, less complex value chains and proven logistics.

DI Green Gas Days 2025

Metharc presented our solution for the future of Biogas at the Green Gas Days 2025 Conference (16th & 17th Sept in Fredericia, Denmark). This conference was highly attended, with 46 presenters shedding light on green gases from all relevant perspectives – political, regulatory, technical, safety and international. Many thanks to Danish Industry (DI Energi), Biogas Danmark and IDA Energi for organising a well coordinated, educational and optimistic conference.

Throughout the conference I became both inspired and motivated as the presenters discussed the hard choices, industry data, the rapidly changing environment (no pun intended) facing the Biogas industry, and their willingness to adapt quickly. Energy security needs Biogas, a lot of it. However, a change is needed in how this energy resource is exploited and consumed, and how its biogenic carbon is managed for optimum benefit. At Metharc that is where we are focused.

Metharc presented its climate-positive wellbore reformation process to future-proof Biogas generation, by coupling Biogas production with Geothermal power, to generate Negative-Emission Green Hydrogen with point-of-use local carbon capture. Biogas to Hydrogen (BtH) is one solution to the economic obstacles facing both the Biogas and Geothermal industries going forward. This supplies the Green Hydrogen network with baseload production, while benefiting from sustainable CCS, reduced surface carbon infrastructure, and a significant improvement in climate, commerciality, energy efficiency and energy security for both the Biogas and Geothermal sectors. Geothermal wells provide Biogas with a facility for local carbon capture (CCS) and Hydrogen production, while Biogas provides Geothermal Energy with increased power output and reduced well costs. This synergy creates an economic important pairing that enables true global geographic scalability, allowing both sectors to grow rapidly in tandem.
